I dreamed last night that I stole a pair of briefs from Danyl Johnson’s clothesline. Shameless. Although I have to admit that, given the opportunity, I probably wouldn’t resist doing just that.
He’s delightful to watch in the new X Factor video but I don’t really like that song very much.
October just around the corner. Cheer!!!

Well, in 1478: The Pazzi attack Lorenzo de’ Medici, and kill his brother Giuliano, during High Mass in the Florence Cathedral. Even so, a few months later Lorenzo became sole ruler of Florence.
More recently, I do of course agree with the comments made about Blackie’s new children. But there’s really not much I can do about it. Landlady and Husband are the kind of people who just can’t take the slightest hint of criticism. I’m still getting the cold shoulder after a week for having suggested the pups should have a blanket, so I don’t think it would be wise to just go and get one for them. No, as I said, I have to mind my own business. At least the dogs do have shelter and food, if no attention or exercise.
Jayvee and I have finally started playing Nexon’s Mabinogi. For some reason it’s very tiring for the eyes and I have to take frequent breaks. I’m still out ahead of Jayvee but he’ll no doubt overtake me before long. It’s an interesting game but aside from being hard on the eyes it also annoys me that places are so far from each other. Way too much time spent just running from one town to another.
All in all, September 2009 has been a rather dull month. I won’t be sorry to see it end.

from Facebook:
Deb Jensen Poor thing. Chained to a post.
Albert Vanderburg She used to have a nice house in the front garden. I have no idea why she’s now chained in the back. Sad, but I have to mind my own business.
Alma Acosta Weinstein Can’t they have a blanket or something soft for the puppies to lay on instead of cardboard. To tell you the truth, these are very sad pics.
Albert Vanderburg I agree, Alma. Their mother has survived like that for months, so I hope the little ones will, too. I don’t know why these people have dogs at all.
Matt Phillips: Aww, man… Those little pups need a bed or a heat lamp to keep them warm. Hopefully mamma will stay near them so they can shere her body heat and nurse.
Deb Jensen: How did she get knocked up chained in the yard? Or is that WHY she’s chained? Tell you landlords spay clinics are cheap….and so are old blankets. Christ.

1477. Wonder if anything exceptional happened in that year?
Very much later, in the mid-seventies, I would go to the house of Felix two or three times a week to attend his salon. Felix was the most righteous dealer in Manhattan, would only sell grass or hashish. If he did come across some LSD or mescaline, he’d give it away.
Well, there was a man who visited at least once a week named Patrick. Late 20s, I think, in the advertising business. And there was always static between us. Felix wanted a harmonious atmosphere, and who could blame him.
So I decided I was going to change things. The next time I was there with Patrick I made every attempt I could think of to be agreeable, flatter him, etc. etc. And it worked! Felix was astonished, thought I had used magic.
Well, I’ve decided to use the same tactic with Elder Son.
Please wish me luck.

A rare moment. Everything on this computer is working the way it should. Maybe I better force it to save a restore point? Or would that jinx it?
I weakened on Sunday and offered Jayvee 10,000 NX for an hour with the modem. Kert was working on his set-up Saturday afternoon because the network appeared very briefly several times, never staying long enough to be of any use.
Well, one solution for those offline hours is to let that librarian loose in BearShare. 5,462 tracks to sort into playlists. The first major accomplishment was to finally get Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Invisible City” in correct order, after discovering how to see an expanded track title. That plus track number meant absolute success. What ethereally beautiful music that is.
Of course, listening to that huge music library is another solution for offline time.
And Cat Stevens is singing “Katmandu” as I write ….

Well, Blaine’s comment on 1474 makes it clear he agrees with Helen that a cable modem is not the answer. Sigh. Why can’t I get some advisors with positive news?
Last night I dreamed that I checked in at PayPal and someone had deposited $900 there. Easy to know where to file that dream. Definitely wish fulfillment territory. But Mister Sandman, since it was all a dream anyway, why not $9000.
Well, barring unexpected events, I’m about to launch into an offline weekend.
Woe is me.

Nexon has three online multiplayer games: Maple Story, Mabinogi and Combat Arms. KM and I are playing Maple, but Jayvee is hooked on Combat. In all three games “NX Cash” can be used to buy special items. The usual method of getting NX is to buy a card at 7-Eleven or other stores, but as I discovered, you can also use PayPal.
So I converted 10 PayPal dollars into 10,000 NX. Not a bad exchange rate. When Jayvee got home from school I asked his advice on what was best to buy with my NX in Maple. When he learned how I got my NX he was, of course, all excited and immediately began to sweetly beg for 10k of his own. I was curious to see if it was possible to use my PayPal account to buy NX for him so went along with it, although I probably would have in any event. He’s an irresistably sweet beggar. And of course it worked.
I had to transfer more money from bank to PayPal this morning. It will certainly be the last time this month.
On amazon.com there is a used cable modem available for $15. I think I’ll order it (when the money gets to PayPal). Gambling $15 instead of $99 to see if Helen is wrong about not being able to use it with RoadRunner isn’t quite so daunting. And wouldn’t it be sweet if it did work.

From about seven in the morning until 2:30-3:00 in the afternoon, Mon-Fri, is enough online time for any sane person, isn’t it? Maybe. But then I have never ever claimed to be sane. And it’s that Mon-Fri which is really the nasty part of it.
As if the net connectivity dilemma isn’t enough hassle, I also manage to create some offline problems for myself, too. There’s a librarian lurking inside me somewhere and it escaped a few days ago, decided to make some sense of the haphazard way XP arranges things. Directories (folders in XP talk) with sub-folders named Music or My Music. Lots of them. So I combined them all into one.
Alas, I also did it with the multiple Games folders and that was a disaster since it somehow screwed up the Registry and many of them would no longer run. I had to download Maple Story again and re-install it, an effort which was thwarted by insufficient disc space, even after I deleted not only the original Maple Story files but several other games as well. Okay, it was a bad idea. So back to the dungeon goes that Librarian.
At least my attempt to set up PayPal has worked out, even if slowly. It took a week for a transfer of $25 from my bank to reach PayPal! Getting some of it out was instant, though. I had to send BearShare $1 to continue downloading music. That’s for the first month. It will be $10 a month in future. Well worth it, since downloading just one CD will justify it. And I already downloaded three albums by a group new to me called Athlete.
But woe! The switch to BearShare Pro lost all my playlists. So now I have 5500+ tracks in that one big collection and they can only be transferred to playlists one track at a time. That Librarian is rattling its chains.

Well, I guess Clearwire has finally cut off young Kert since his wireless network was nowhere to be seen on Labor Day. How do I know he owes Clearwire money? Because whenever I started Mozilla Firefox, Clearwire hijacked it and forced me to its home page, saying it was owed $31. I couldn’t break out of it either, not by typing in an alternative URL or with bookmarks. Fortunately, MSIE blocked Clearwire’s hijack attempt. So it’s now my default browser.
But until I find a solution to this connectivity problem or Kert gets it back together, I suppose I’ll be limited to being online only when the boys are in school. It’s frustrating because I’m sure if I could find the right combination I’d be able to connect with the dlink wireless network. Problem is, there are SO many possible “properties” settings that who knows what each should be to open the door to dlink. (I did get in for a few days once, but that was because they dropped their security status.)
Maybe I’ll just have to go for a prepaid credit card and get one of these nifty Clearwire modems of my own.
